Monsoons are essentially seasonal winds that alter their course with time. So, they are referred to as periodic winds. In the summer, monsoons are a system of two seasonal winds that travel from the sea to land, and in the winter, they travel from the land to the sea. Analysis of daily rainfall data for Punjab during monsoon seasons (June–Sept) over past 21 years showed a range of seasonal rainfall from 134 mm to 490.3 mm. Cotton-wheat is the dominant cropping system in south western region of Punjab. The variability in monsoon rainfall during kharif season is a major concern for Bathinda and data on monsoon rainfall from 2000 to 2021 indicates that the rainfall was deficit in most of the years in the state.
